Summer Sessions Study Abroad 2004

 

Belgium, Turkey, Cyprus & the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

 
Dates: January 2 - 14, 2007
Cost: $2750 for double accommodations and $2950 for single accommodations
Summary: This program will enable students to examine the effects of social, political, technological, and environmental changes as a consequence of a country's participation in a regional trading/economic bloc.
Additional Information
Location: BRUSSELS, BELGIUM JANUARY 3 - 6
Upon arriving in the capital of the EU, visits will be to the centers of policy developments, including discussions with key policy makers and representatives of the Republic of Cyprus (EU member) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (EU non-member).

REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS JANUARY 7 - 9
The program will feature a visit to Nicosia where changes in government policy since EU accession will be discussed with government and academic leaders.

TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS JANUARY 10 - 12
The historical foundations of the Cyprus dispute will be presented and its consequences discussed.

ISTANBUL JANUARY 12 - 14
The status of Turkey's current EU prospects will be discussed, including visits with those both in favor and opposed to EU membership.

Eligibility: The program is open to anyone interested in exploring actual cases of the interrelated dynamics of the technological, political, social, economic, and environmental in the context of development. Applications with a $150 ($100 non-refundable) deposit are due by September 30, 2006. Applications will be accepted until November 22, 2006 or until the program is full. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis.
Academic
Program:
Students will be required to take either GTD 598 or OMT 494 for 1-3 credits. Course requirements will be adjusted individually depending on a student's academic program. Taking the class for maximum credit will include a research paper or alternative capstone requirement.

Living
Accommodations:
The program includes accommodations in 3 or 4 star hotels in single or double accommodations. There are only a few single accommodation slots available, determined on a first-come first-served basis.
Cost: The cost of $2,750 for double accommodation or $2,950 for single accommodation (subject to possible change) includes: international and local transportation, accommodations in 3-4 star hotels, all breakfasts, some additional meals, all program activities, and an International Student Identity Card. Not included: tuition and fees, additional meals, and personal expenses.
