One of the earliest French botanists, Ruel worked primarily on translations of Dioscorides. Ruel has arranged this work in three books, with a very extensive index to all three books. The descriptions, while lacking illustrations are nevertheless extremely detailed, and include information about the name and location as well as plant characteristics.
