Bio

Gail McMillan grew up and was educated in southern California. After a stint in Oregon, she moved to the east coast and in 1981 she earned two master’s degrees in library science and early American history from the University of Maryland, College Park. Currently, she directs the Digital Library and Archives (formerly the Scholarly Communications Project) at University Libraries, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has held this position for 5 years, following her work as a serials librarian, also at Virginia Tech. Since 1995, the Special Collections Department has been under her leadership where Internet access to its unique resources is a priority. Her most recent publications have focused on digital libraries, electronic theses and dissertations, and electronic journals. During the last year she has also made several presentations on these topics, traveling internationally to Switzerland and Montreal; and in February she will be speaking in Australia.
