Taxonomic history (from RAJ):
Pogonomyrmex brevibarbis longiceps Santschi 1917: 277 (worker). Syntypes examined: 1 worker [MCZ], 2 workers [USNM], 6 workers [MACN], 13 workers [NHMB], 1 worker [MSNG], #745, ARGENTINA, San Juan Province: Pocitos (A. Brasco leg.). Kusnezov, 1951; 250 (synonomy under brevibarbis silvestrii; not confirmed here). See also Gallardo, 1932: 108, fig. 3 (MACN worker here designated LECTOTYPE). NEW STATUS
