In late July, a film crew from the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer came to spend the day interviewing Alberto Ríos as part of its Poetry Series. Along with covering The Theater of Night, his new book of poems, the NewsHour took particular interest in Ríos’ “poems of public purpose.” The crew visited sites around the valley including SMoCA, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Of particular interest were collaborations between Ríos and Karla Elling at her letterpress studio, Mummy Mountain Press, and location shots of their Words Over Water project at Tempe Town Lake.
