SSM 301–11: Handling Incidents of Fraud, Misrepresentation, and Misappropriation in Financial Aid
To define and clarify the procedure for handling incidents of fraud, misrepresentation, and misappropriation in relation to Financial Aid and Scholarship Services
Financial Aid and Scholarship Services
Suspected incidents of fraud, theft, criminal offenses relating to the application for or receipt of financial aid, falsely reporting information on financial aid applications, altering information on documents, or related conduct should be reported immediately to the director of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
Financial Aid and Scholarship Services normally will refer the allegation(s) to the ASU Police Department (ASU PD), the U.S. Department of Education, and the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities for investigation and determination of the appropriate course of action.
This procedure is mandatory. Failure to report known or suspected incidents of the above conduct may be viewed as participation in or facilitation of that activity.
For a further policy on fraud, see SSM 305–09, “Handling Incidents of Fraud in Student Employment.”
For information on reporting misuse of university assets, see the Academic Affairs Policies and Procedures Manual—ACD 123, “Misuse of University Assets.”
