The Board of Regents prescribes that the institutions under its
jurisdiction evaluate, without prejudice, applicants for admission
from regionally accredited postsecondary institutions or
postsecondary institutions which are candidates for accreditation
on the individual merits of their academic achievements and
individual capability to complete the courses and the curriculum
requirements. No institution under the jurisdiction of the board
shall refuse, on the basis of policy, to recognize the degrees or
accept the transfer of credits from a regionally accredited
postsecondary institution or a postsecondary institution which is a
candidate for accreditation.
Statement of Clarification on the Transfer of
Credit
This policy means that:
- Degrees are conferred upon the recommendation of the
appropriate faculty. This policy affirms this concept.
- The faculty offering the academic program will determine which
transfer credits and courses may apply toward completion of the
degree they offer.
- Appropriate faculty committees will review the applications of
students who have
earned credits or degrees at accredited and candidate-status
institutions, evaluating each application individually and without
prejudice.
- Decisions regarding admission and transfer credit will be based
on the merits of the applicant’s achievements and an
assessment of his or her ability to complete the required
curriculum.
- No policy of an institution under the jurisdiction of the board
shall deny recognition of a degree from, or acceptance of transfer
credits from, a regionally accredited or candidate-status
institution solely on the basis of identification of a particular
institution.
