Herrera School For the Fine Arts performs at
Herberger Theater Center Stage
The Young Writers Program’s Sean Nevin and Poet Alberto Rios, in collaboration with ASU’s Dance Arizona Repertory Theatre (DART), Herrera School for The Fine Arts and teacher/choreographer Susan Bendix participated in The Borders Project. YWP provided support to more than forty seventh and eighth graders in the selection and interpretation of poetry. The participation centered around a special residency and discussion conducted by poet and ASU Regents Professor Alberto Rios at Herrera School for The Fine Arts. The project culminated in a poetry/dance performance in a three-day run on The Main Stage at Herberger Theater in Phoenix.
The Herrera School for the Fine Arts students enjoy a comprehensive arts curriculum that compliments a strong academic focus. As a fine arts magnet employing certified arts specialists, Herrera teaches dance, singing, acting, visual arts and music. The school plays educator and arts promoter to Kindergarten through eighth grade students who are 61% English language learners and 66% below the poverty level.
