Summer Sessions Study Abroad 2004

Zaragoza, Spain

Dates: June 16 - 30, 2006
Cost: $1860
Summary: This program will combine a practical understanding of social service delivery in Spain within the context of historical developments and recent changes in the European Union.
Additional Information
Location: ZARAGOZA
The course will take place in Zaragoza, the capital city of Aragón, in Northern Spain. The city has a rich history including the Roman presence as evidenced by the ruins of the old Roman city walls to the beginnings of Christianity in Spain and the Moorish occupation. Students will have an opportunity to visit the cathedral (La Seo) and the church of Nuestra Señora del Pilar built upon the site where legend says Mary miraculously appeared. An excursion will also be taken to the Palacio de la Aljafería, an 11th century Moorish fortress. This building stands as a reminder that the city was once one of the northern-most seats of the Moorish taifas or Muslim-ruled principalities during the Middle Ages. Today, Zaragoza is a lively city of over 600,000 inhabitants and is situated within easy reach of Pamplona, where the running of the bulls takes place every year; Barcelona; and Madrid.
Eligibility: This program is open to qualified undergraduate and graduate students as well as social service professionals interested in exploring the global dimensions of social service provisions in Spain and who desire to study, travel, and experience different customs, foods, and ways of life. Participants signing up for the program do not have to speak Spanish. Students from other universities in the U.S. are encouraged to apply. Applications and a $160.00 non-refundable deposit are due by February 1, 2006. Applications will be accepted until the program is full. Click here for the online application.
