Location: |
PUERTO RICO (JUNE 6 – 12)
Students will participate in the First International Conference on Community Psychology.
TEMPE, ARIZONA (JUNE 14 – 19)
After coming back from the conference, students will help organize (and participate in) the First ASU Summer Institute on Community that covers such issues as: prevention, resilience, women’s issues, university as a community, issues of Latino community in Arizona, and community leadership. This experience will allow them to connect global and local perspectives on community psychology. Students will be expected to write a paper summarizing their experiences from participation in both events.

Eligibility: |
This program is open to students who have completed Introductory Psychology, who are open to multicultural experiences, and who plan to work in a leadership role in their
communities. Proficiency in Spanish is not a prerequisite. Applications will be accepted until April 3, 2006 and will be processed in order of their receipt. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis. The $250 deposit is non-refunable.

Academic
Program: |
Normal enrollment is for three hours of credit. Classes are held on the conference days (6 days) from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. There will be one day of class meeting at the end of the
program.

Living
Accommodations: |
In Puerto Rico students will stay in a hotel with breakfast provided. In Tempe students need to find their own accommodation.

Cost: |
The cost of $1,500 (subject to change) includes: housing, local transportation,
conference fee. Not included: ASU Tuition and fees, roundtrip airfare (approx. $600),
additional food/beverages, and incidentals. |
