REGENSBURG
Regensburg lies on the confluence of the Danube, the Naab and the Regen rivers.
Abundant with old world charm, Regensburg is a romantic medieval and early modern
city. With a population of 130,000, it is the fifth largest city in Bavaria. It is rich in history
with ruins going back to Roman times. At one time it was also the administrative seat of
the Holy Roman Empire and later the capital of Bavaria. The splendid Gothic cathedral of
St. Peter survived World War II and dominates the landscape. Regensburg is close to the
cosmopolitan city of Munich as well as Nuremberg, Bayreuth and the Czech border. The
most centrally located summer study program in Europe, it provides easy access to many
European destinations. Cultural trips to the famous castles of Neuschwanstein, Linderhof
and Herrenchiemsee as well as an overnight trip to Salzburg in Austria and day trips to
the Eagle's Nest and the Königssee, and also Munich are planned.
