The Arizona State University Sun Devils closed out the regular season in style as 13 different players scored in a 26-6 victory over the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels.
Tyler Westfall and Anthony LaFlam scored four goals each, while Eric Nelson and Ryan Westfall both contributed three goals. James Reap, Kevin Saunders, and Devin Chiappari all tallied twice for the Devils. Robert Bocchicchio, Joey Cosgrove, Evan Fatheree, Peter Hoffmann, AJ Redford, and Stephen Turner all scored once each.

The Arizona State University Sun Devils picked up their tenth win of the season on April 17 with a 17-7 victory on the road over the rival University of Arizona Wildcats.
In the victory, Ryan and Tyler Westfall each scored four goals and Anthony LaFlam added three more. Eric Nelson and James Reap both tallied twice for Arizona State, and Devin Chiappari and AJ Redford had one goal each.
The final game of the regular season is on April 24 on the road against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels. |

The Arizona State University lacrosse team split their recent two-game road trip, winning 11-8 against the University of Oregon Ducks on April 3 and dropping a 14-7 decision to the Simon Fraser University Clansmen.
In their victory over Oregon, Eric Nelson and Tyler Westfall led the Sun Devils with three goals each. James Reap also scored two goals, while Anthony LaFlam, Stephen Turner, and Ryan Westfall each tallied one goal each in the victory.
Eric Nelson got another two goals for Arizona State in their matchup against Simon Fraser. Ryan and Tyler Westfall, Kevin Saunders, and Anthony LaFlam all scored once for the Devils. Arizona State has an 8-3 record with three games remaining in the season. Their final home game is on April 11 as they host the University of California-San Diego Tritons.

The Arizona State University Sun Devils picked up two important victories last week in Tempe, a 13-4 win over the California Golden Bears on March 22 and a 14-7 win over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on March 25.
 Facing the Golden Bears, James Reap led the offense with four goals, while Anthony LaFlam and Ryan Westfall both scored three goals for the Devils. Taylor Mitchell, Eric Nelson, and Tyler Westfall also contributed with one goal each. Arizona State’s defense allowed only four goals, the fewest by any opponent this season.
In the match against the Gauchos, Ryan and Tyler Westfall had four goals each for Arizona State. Taylor Mitchell and Eric Nelson both contributed two goals each, while James Reap and Anthony LaFlam also scored for the Sun Devils in the victory.
The next games for the Sun Devils are on April 3 and April 4 as they travel to play the University of Oregon and Simon Fraser University.

Scottsdale, Ariz. (3/19/10) – On Friday night, the Arizona State University Sun Devils looked to build off their last victory and start a new winning streak at Summit Builders Field at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale. They did so in convincing fashion, putting together 14 consecutive goals at one point in a 16-6 rout over the Chico State Wildcats.
 The Sun Devils scored a quick goal early as Ryan Westfall put Arizona State up 1-0. Chico State answered immediately to tie the score. That was as close as this game ever got as the Sun Devils began to light up the scoreboard. Ryan Westfall scored his second goal of the night to put Arizona State back on top. Robert Bocchicchio, Kris Saunders, Eric Nelson, and Stephen Turner also scored for the Devils in the first period, putting Arizona State up 6-1 after one.
For Chico State, the nightmare was only just beginning as Arizona State continued their assault. Eric Nelson had a big second period, scoring three of the seven Sun Devil goals in the frame. Also contributing in the stanza for Arizona State were Kris Saunders, Anthony LaFlam, James Reap, and AJ Redford. When the teams stopped for halftime, the scoreboard showed the Sun Devils with a commanding lead over Chico State, 13-1.
Arizona State showed no signs of slowing down early in the third quarter. Eric Nelson put home his fifth goal of the contest and Anthony LaFlam got his second tally of the night to make it 15-1. Late in the frame, Chico State finally got back on the scoreboard with two goals. However, the Sun Devils still held a very comfortable 15-3 lead heading to the final quarter.
Chico State did bounce back in the final frame, scoring three times to cut the lead to 15-6. Mike DeFranco would score in the last minute to finish the scoring and give Arizona State another win on the season. The next game for the Sun Devils is Monday night against the California Golden Bears.

Tempe, Ariz. (3/15/10) – After a stunning loss to Colorado State, the Arizona State University Sun Devils looked to regroup on Monday night. Facing a tough University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs team, Arizona State had to dig deep in order to pull out a win. In a very tight battle between both squads, the Sun Devils managed to escape with a 10-9 victory in Tempe.
 The game got off to a bad start for the Sun Devils as they found themselves down 2-0 early on. Ryan Westfall started the comeback for Arizona State by scoring to make it 2-1. Then, Tyler Westfall scored to tie the game. Eric Nelson added a goal to give the Sun Devils the lead. Finally, James Reap scored to cap the four-goal first quarter for Arizona State and make it 4-2 after one.
Minnesota-Duluth dominated the second quarter as they launched a furious attack on the Arizona State goal. The Sun Devils made some costly turnovers and the Bulldogs took advantage, scoring four times in the frame while holding Arizona State scoreless. The two teams went into halftime with Minnesota-Duluth leading, 6-4.
Similar to the first quarter, Ryan Westfall got a Sun Devils’ rally going in the third quarter by scoring to cut the lead to 6-5. James Reap got his second goal of the game for the equalizer. Eric Nelson also put home his second of the night to put Arizona State back on top. Taylor Mitchell got on the score sheet to give the Devils an 8-6 lead. The Bulldogs would get one back to make it 8-7 heading to the fourth quarter.
In the final stanza, Ryan Westfall scored his third of the contest to widen the lead. Minnesota-Duluth would get that goal right back just a short time later to make it 9-8. Tyler Westfall notched his second goal of the game to extend the lead back to two. The Bulldogs would not go away quietly as they cut the lead to one again. However, even with over seven minutes left, the Sun Devils held off the Bulldogs to win the game and snap their two-game losing streak. The next game for the Sun Devils is Friday night against the Chico State Wildcats.

 Tempe, Ariz. (3/13/10) – On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the third-ranked Arizona State University Sun Devils took on the Colorado State University Rams, ranked eighth in the adidas TOP23 Rankings. While the teams battled back and forth through the majority of the contest, the Rams put in five goals in the fourth quarter in a 14-10 decision over the Sun Devils in Tempe.
Colorado State struck first early on in the game, but the Sun Devils responded quickly to tie the game. After the Rams retook the lead, Arizona State struck for two straight goals for a 3-2 lead. Colorado State would score twice in the final five minutes to take a 4-3 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Colorado State added a goal just 31 seconds into the period to extend their lead. The Sun Devils rallied back with three consecutive goals to take a 6-5 advantage. However, the Rams would deliver a momentum-crushing goal at the horn to tie the game heading to the second half.
Penalties burned the Sun Devils in the second half as they constantly played man down. The two teams exchanged goals quickly in the early stages of the stanza. The Rams would get the tiebreaking tally to retake a one-goal edge. However, Arizona State later tied the game at 8-8. Colorado State would strike late in the period for a 9-8 lead after three quarters.
The Rams took full control in the final period. They scored early and often to increase their lead to 13-8 before five minutes had elapsed in the frame. The Sun Devils got two goals to cut the deficit to three. However, the Rams would add an insurance goal to finish the scoring and hand the Sun Devils a second straight loss. Arizona State will look to end their slide as the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs visit Tempe on Monday night.

Tempe, Ariz. (3/12/10) – The Arizona State University Sun Devils continue their climb in the adidas TOP23 rankings, climbing a spot to #3 in this week’s rankings. The Sun Devils have constantly inched up the standings this season, starting at #5 in the preseason rankings and moving up to #4 after Week 2. Head Coach Chris Malone said in an email that, while the #3 rank is nice, the team must avoid letting the rankings get to them. “It's early March and there is still a lot of lacrosse to be played. The team needs to stay focused and improve one day at a time,” Coach Malone said. The #3 Sun Devils take on #8 Colorado State in their next game on Saturday, March 13.

Tempe, Ariz. (3/3/10) – Coming off another blowout win, the fourth-ranked Arizona State University Sun Devils prepared for their biggest test of the season as the top-ranked University of Michigan Wolverines came to Tempe. The Devils kept the Wolverines close all game long, but it was not enough as Michigan squeaked out an 11-10 victory.
The top-ranked Wolverines established the tempo early, pressuring the Sun Devils early and often. Michigan jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Eric Nelson and James Reap tied the game for Arizona State. The Wolverines would answer with a goal in the final minute of the period to go up 3-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Michigan struck for two quick goals to extend their lead to 5-2. Bryan Siegel and Anthony LaFlam pulled the Sun Devils back to within one. The teams would exchange goals again to make it 6-5 for Michigan. LaFlam almost tied the game before the half but the referee determined that he scored after time expired, allowing the Wolverines to keep their one-goal lead.
Michigan scored first in the third stanza to take a 7-5 lead. Anthony LaFlam and Eric Nelson both got their second goals of the game to tie the score, exciting the large crowd of Maroon and Gold fans. However, the Wolverines would retake the lead before the period expired.
In the final period, James Reap scored his second goal of the game to tie the game for Arizona State. Eric Nelson got his third goal of the contest and put the Sun Devils on top for the first time in the game, 9-8. Michigan responded back to tie the game at 9-9. The teams kept the game deadlocked for almost the entire period before the Wolverines broke through with 2:54 left to take the lead. Michigan would also add a goal with 54 seconds remaining for a two-goal lead. The Sun Devils fought back as Tyler Westfall scored with 21 seconds left to cut the deficit to one. Arizona State got one last chance to tie the game and send it into overtime, but the Wolverines shut the door and handed the Sun Devils their first loss this season. Up next for the Devils, they host the Colorado State Rams on March 13.

 Tempe, Ariz. (2/19/10) – On Friday night, the Arizona State University Sun Devils started their home part of the new season against the San Diego State University Aztecs. After their huge win last weekend against UCLA, the Devils came out with passion and energy against the Aztecs and it showed both on the field and the score as they came away with a 15-8 win.
The Sun Devils started strong as Tyler Westfall put two quick goals on the board for a 2-0 lead. Eric Nelson and Ryan Westfall added a goal each in the first period to widen the lead to 4-0. San Diego State would answer with two goals late to make it 4-2 after the first.
Early in the second period, the Aztecs would score quickly to cut the Sun Devils’ lead to one. That would be as close as San Diego State would get to tying the game as Arizona State ended the period with five unanswered goals. Eric Nelson and Ryan Westfall would pick up their second goals of the game, and Taylor Mitchell, Anthony LaFlam, and James Reap would also get on the score sheet in the stanza as the Sun Devils took a 9-3 lead into halftime.
In the third period, Tyler Westfall scored his third goal of the evening to increase the lead. San Diego State would get one back to shrink the lead to six. Ryan Westfall answered the Aztecs’ goal with two of his own, giving him four in the game, and the Devils’ lead ballooned to eight after three quarters.
San Diego State would not go quietly as they got the first three goals of the fourth period to make it 12-7. James Reap would get another goal to put the Devils up 13-7. The Aztecs would answer back with one, but Eric Nelson scored his third goal of the night and Anthony LaFlam added another goal to silence the San Diego State rally and pick up the win. Up next for the Sun Devils, they visit the University of San Diego on February 27.

 The Sun Devils step back onto the field and play their first game since the MCLA Semi-final in May of 2008. ASU took on the UCLA Bruins and came out on top in a very convincing fashion, winning 21-6. Anthony LaFlam led all scorers with 6 goals. The team made its annual trip to participate in the pre-season Best of the West Tournament in Las Vegas on November 6 & 7. Just like the alumni game, all the players get an opportunity to showcase their skills and the coaching staff evaluates each player. ASU played Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount, Utah Valley University, and Brigham Young University. These were all great games and each member of the team played to the final whistle. The team has a lot of new players on the team and this weekend is instrumental for these new players to gain game experience. The coaches emphasize that players get better every time they step on the field. The goals for this tournament included competing every second of every game and sticking together no matter what happens. The team accomplished its goals as it was a stronger and tighter group after the tournament. photos >>

JIm Maribito took the opening face-off 30 years to the day that he took his first face-off. The alumni kept it close early but the young guys controlled the game and ran away with it. After an eight month suspension, the ASU Men's Lacrosse Club has been officially reinstated to active status as of October 7th, 2009. The Lacrosse Club has worked closely with Arizona State University administration and staff to get back in good standing with the University’s Sport Club Program. The Club remains on probation, but, this will not limit any of Club's on-field activities, including the 2010 regular season and post season play.
The ASU Men's Lacrosse Club would like to thank all the Parents, Alumni, and fans for their support during this tumultuous period. All the Club's members are excited to get back onto the field and will be starting their fall practices next week. They will participate in the Annual Best of the West Tournament in Las Vegas, NV on November 6 & 7, 2009. |

 Joe Kostolansky has been named Assistant Coach for the Arizona State University Men’s Lacrosse Team effective immediately. He will serve as the defensive coordinator under Coach Malone.
Kostolansky brings five years of NCAA coaching experience with previous jobs at Skidmore College (NY), Nazareth College (NY), and the University of Vermont. He served as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont in 2007 and 2008 and was primarily responsible for the Catamounts’ offense. In 2006 he helped lead Nazareth to the ECAC Championship. The highlight of Kostolansky’s two seasons at Skidmore was the Thoroughbreds first conference championship in 2005 and an NCAA Tournament appearance, the first in school history. Kostolansky and Head Coach Terry Corcoran were named the 2005 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.
Head Coach Chris Malone said “We are very pleased to have Joe on our staff and look forward to his contributions at ASU. I look forward to working with him on a everyday basis to help the program meet it’s goals for the 2010 season.”
Kostolansky is a 2003 graduate of Hofstra University where he was a four-year letter winner at attack and participated in four NCAA Division I tournaments. Kostolansky served as team captain his senior year and was a two-time 1st Team All-Conference selection. He played four seasons of Major League Lacrosse with the Rochester Rattlers, Boston Cannons, and San Francisco Dragons. He is a graduate of Corning East High School (NY) and was a North/South All-American in 1998.

The Sun Devils traveled to Las Vegas, NV to play in the Best of the West tournament over the weekend. Competing in four games including Utah, Colorado State, Westminster and Oregon, the Devils won each game handily while mixing up the personal to make sure everyone saw extra field time for evaluation. The tournament does not crown a champion as its purpose is just to get some quality game play during the Fall semester. The Devils were 4-0 in the tournament.
Notables: Taylor Mitchell scored 6 goals on 9 shots. Chris Bua showed his ability to run the field, grabbing ground balls in chaotic situations. Kyle Sanders seems to be a great replacement for graduated FOGO Ben Vosika, winning a large percentage of face-offs and scooping 19 groundballs for the Sun Devils. Freshman goalie, Dylan Westfall recorded 8 saves and a first half shutout against Oregon and going 75.5% on the weekend. Anthony LaFlam led the Sun Devils with 7 goals in the tournament. Ryan Westfall and Eric Nelson each had 6 goals.

The alumni team made some major adjustments from the 2007 game and closed the gap with the current Sun Devil Team. In just one year the alumni managed to double their output to four goals over last year's two and hold the current team to only 21 goals compared to 23 last year. At that rate the alumni will over take the current team in less than 10 years. | Photos

.: June 27, 2008 | PJ Rovinelli Named Assistant Coach for ASU Men’s Lacrosse
Tempe, AZ (June 27, 2008) The Arizona State University Club Lacrosse Head Coach Chris Malone announced the hiring of PJ Rovinelli to serve as an assistant coach for the 2009 Sun Devils. PJ comes to ASU from the University of Arizona staff.
 Rovinelli served as the Head Coach at U of A in 2008 and as an assistant coach in 2007. As an assistant, PJ was the recruiting coordinator and worked closely with the defense and goalies. As the Head Coach, PJ was in charge of the entire program on and off the field. PJ’s other coaching experience was an assistant coach for Framingham High School in Massachusetts for two seasons.
PJ graduated magna-cum laude in 2005 from NCAA Division III’s Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts with a degree in Business Management. While attending Springfield, he competed for four years in varsity wrestling and lacrosse. His four years on the Pride’s lacrosse team were split between defense and goal. Coach Rovinelli earned several honors while at Springfield. Among those highlights included 2-time Academic All-American, Springfield’s Duel Sport Athlete of the Year, and Male Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. Prior to attending Springfield College, PJ graduated from Framingham High School, where he was an US Lacrosse All-American goalie. He also played high school football and wrestled.
“I am very excited to have PJ apart of the ASU family. He brings a lot of energy, passion, and leadership skills to our program. PJ will be very beneficial to our goalies, defensemen, and our recruiting efforts. I’m very confident that he will help take this program to another level.”
The ASU Men’s Lacrosse Club, formed in 1968, is for the benefit of the students of Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. The Club plays in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League, South A Division. The 2008 Sun Devils had a regular season record of 13-3. The Sun Devils are coming off their most successful season in their 40 year history where they finished second in the WCLL Division 1. They made their second consecutive trip to the MCLA National Championship Tournament in May where they made the final four. This was the Devil’s second consecutive top 10 ranking. : May 19, 2008 | 2008 ASU Men’s Lacrosse Team advanced to the MCLA Division 1 Final Four.
Team has its best season in its 40 year history.
Under the guidance of first year head coach and WCLL Coach of the Year, Chris Malone, the 2008 Sun Devils recorded their best season in team history. The Devils posted an overall record of 15-4. The team was a WCLL Finalist, a MCLA Final Four participant, and won the WCLL Division 1 - South. Three accomplishments that have never been done. The team's only losses were to National Champion Michigan, and the other Final Four teams – BYU and Chapman. During 2008, the Sun Devils outscored their opponents by 95 goals as they averaged 14.5 goals per game, while giving up 9.5 goals per game.
The Sun Devils lost a thriller to #2 Chapman on May 15 in Texas Stadium, 18-15. This was the team's third game in four days. This was the final game for seniors Nick Johnson, Tyler Ludwig, Pete Noel, Jon Savino, Ben Vosika and Dallas Sessions. These seniors had 3 coaches while playing for ASU and they leave the program having more MCLA Tournament appearances then any other ASU lacrosse alum. They got to experience what it's like to play in a Final Four, which no other senior class has ever done. "These were a great group of seniors that had to make more adjustments then any other player on the team since I was their third coach. This season wouldn't have gone the way it did if it wasn't for them. I appreciate everything they did for the team and these 6 guys will truly be missed."

Of the nine leagues that comprise the MCLA, two of the Final Four were from the WCLL – ASU and Chapman. Four of the sweet sixteen teams invited to the MCLA Tournament were from the WCLL.

Two Sun Devils were named to the MCLA First All-America Team – brothers Tyler (attack) and Ryan Westfall (midfield). Anthony LaFlam was named as a Third Team All-America midfielder. Eric Nelson earned Academic All-America recognition and was also named to the 2008 MCLA All-Tournament Team with teammate Ryan Westfall.

Texas Tech would not go away as they made the score 11-7 at the end of 3. ASU was able to open the lead in the 4th and ended with the win. ASU is now 5-2. ASU wins season opener at home against #22 Cal Poly, SLO, 10-9
Led by Ryan Westfall's 4 goals and 1 assist, the Sun Devils were able to hang on to a one goal win.
In the first half, the scores went back and forth a couple times with the Sun Devils taking the lead into halftime 5-4. The Sun Devils came out in the 2nd half with 2 quick scores to make it 7-4. Cal Poly wouldn't go away though tying the game at 7. ASU would take a 9-7 lead after 3. Cal Poly had the ball with about 30 seconds to go in the game but couldn't manage to get off a shot. ASU picked up the ground ball to seal the victory. Kyle Lamb made a couple big saves in the 4th qtr. to help get the win. This was a hard fought battle between both teams and it really could have gone either way. ASU would like to thank Cal Poly for their visit to Tempe and would like to wish them the best of luck with the rest of their season.

Tempe, AZ. (November 28, 2007) Arizona State Men's Lacrosse head coach Chris Malone has released the Sun Devils' 2008 schedule. The schedule features four games against 2007 MCLA tournament teams, all four teams finished the season ranked in the top 8 in the Shamrock top 25. They also have 3 other opponents that finished in the Shamrock top 25.
The Sun Devils are coming off last year's 11-5 campaign that saw them reach the MCLA tournament for the 1st time in the program's history. ASU will return 8 starters, including WCLL Division A Player of the Year and 2nd team MCLA All-America Tyler Westfall and midfielder Ryan Westfall, 2007 WCLL Division A All Conference 1st team.
"We want to play a tough schedule every year that will give a chance to make the MCLA Tournament and I believe this schedule will do that. We have a lot of work to do to prepare for this season and we’re very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead," said Malone.
Following a preseason scrimmage with Northern Arizona University, the 2008 schedule kicks off with one game on the road against Grand Canyon University and then four-straight home games. ASU’s first home game will be against Cal Poly on Feb. 15 before hosting perennial powerhouse Michigan on Feb. 24.
The first weekend of March finds Arizona State playing two games back to back against USC and UCLA respectively. Then the Sun Devils travel to Utah to take on The University of Utah on March 9 and then they have a quick turnaround to play 2007 National Champions BYU on March 11. This game will be broadcast on BYU TV.
The team will then host 3 teams in 7 days. Starting with Texas Tech on March 15, then playing Illinois on March 19, and finally ending with its first WCLL game of the year against San Diego State on March 21.
The Sun Devils have a little over a week before they host their 2nd WCLL contest of the year against UCSD on March 30. ASU will then travel the following 2 weekends, starting with the 2007 WCLL Champions UCSB on April 6 and USD on April 13.
The final tune-up before the WCLL Tournament and MCLA tournament comes on "Senior Day" on April 19 against U of A, the final WCLL competition of the year. The WCLL Tournament will begin on the weekend of April 26 and the Championship game will take place on May 4. The MCLA National Championship Tournament will take place in Plano, TX from May 13-18.

Tempe, Arizona (November 13, 2007) – Arizona State University Men’s Lacrosse team has announced the captains for the 2007-2008 season. Three seniors, defenders Nick Johnson (Maple Valley, WA. /Tahoma High School), Dallas Sessions (Maple Valley, WA./ Tahoma High School,) and attackman Pete Noel (Phoenix, AZ. / Arcadia High School) will lead the squad in the upcoming 2008 campaign.
Johnson enters his fourth season with the Sun Devils after graduating from Tahoma High School. Johnson started every game either as a long stick midfielder or close defensemen. He played the wing on face-offs and in doing so, notched 88 ground balls on the year leading the team. He was named an Honorable Mention All-WCLL member in `07. He and Sessions were HS teammates and have known each other since they were in their youth years.
Sessions enters his final campaign with the Sun Devils as a repeat captain. Playing in all 16 games last year as a short stick defensive specialist, he was a valuable part to the team’s best season in its 39 year history. Sessions was also the short stick defender on the team’s man down unit.
Noel rounds out this group. Pete returns to the team as a starting attackman. Starting in all 16 games, he recorded 31 goals and 8 assists putting him 4th on the team in points for the 2007 season. In WCLL play, Pete scored those 31 goals on 60 shots, which gave him the best shooting percentage on the team. In 2007, Noel was #16 in points per game in the WCLL finishing with 3.0 ppg.
Head coach Chris Malone stated that "Being named captain is a great honor as well as a great deal of responsibility. I am very confident that these three young men can lead this team to reach our goals. ASU had a great season last year and I expect these men to help continue that success.”
Arizona State University will open their spring campaign on February 11 when they take on Grand Canyon University at Grand Canyon at 7pm. Grand Canyon is an NCAA Division 2 school located in Phoenix. The Sun Devils play in Division A, South Conference of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League and the MCLA.

 Tempe, AZ (August 9, 2007) – The Arizona State University Men’s Lacrosse Club announced Chris Malone as its new head coach effective immediately. The Arizona State Sun Devil’s are coming off their most successful season in its 40 year history, which included a final Top 10 Ranking and a trip to the MCLA National Championship Tournament. Malone will replace Adam Hopkins, the WCLL Coach of the Year in 2007.
“The ASU lacrosse team is a talented group of players that is coming off a great season,” said Malone. “I plan to build on that momentum to help this team progress further, starting in 2008.”
Malone served as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania from 2003-2005. He joined Penn after a one-year stint as an assistant lacrosse coach at Loyola High School, where Loyola finished fifth in the nation.
 Malone graduated from the University of Maryland in 2001 and was the lacrosse team captain in 2001. The same year, he earned a spot as a third-team All-American and received All-American honorable mention as a senior. Malone was a two-time scholar-athlete and two-time recipient of the William Cole Memorial Award presented to Maryland’s outstanding midfielder of the year (2000 and 2001). He tallied 60 goals and added 37 assists for 97 points in his four-year career in College Park.
After college, Malone was selected in the second round, 10th overall, in the Major League Lacrosse college draft in 2001 by the New Jersey Pride. He played four seasons with the team and also played a year with the Philadelphia Barrage. His final MLL season was with the Chicago Machine in 2006.

Arizona State University Men’s Lacrosse Club Coach Adam Hopkins Steps Down
Tempe, AZ (May 23, 2007) Adam Hopkins, WCLL Coach of the Year , has stepped down after his first season with the ASU Sun Devils Men’s Lacrosse Team. Coach Hopkins has accepted positions as a counselor and as a high school head lacrosse coach in Long Island, NY. The 2007 season was the best in the club’s thirty-nine year history. Following are some of the highlights of the Sun Devil’s 2007 season:
- Regular season record of 10-3.
- WCLL South Division A record of 3-1.
- Total season record of 12-5, including WCLL Playoffs and MCLA Tournament.
- During the week of March 25, the Sun Devils became the first team in MCLA history to defeat two number one ranked teams in one week – Oregon and Michigan.
- First trip to the MCLA National Championship Tournament in team history. At the tournament, the Devils (#10) beat Colorado (#7) and Boston College (#9). They lost to Colorado State (#2) in the quarter finals.
- The Devils played a total of 10 of their 17 games against teams who were in the top 16 of the MCLA and invited to the Championship Tournament. They were 5-5 in these games. Their only losses were to teams ranked in the Top 10.
- Coach Hopkins was named WCLL Coach of the Year
- Sophomore Tyler Westfall was named WCLL Offensive Player of the Year, where he led the WCLL in offensive points.
- Tyler Westfall and freshman Ryan Westfall were named to the WCLL Division A All Conference First Team.
- Freshman Eric Nelson, was named to the WCLL Division A All Conference Third Team.
- Three Sun Devils (2 freshmen and 1 sophomore) were in the top ten in WCLL scoring.
The ASU Men’s Lacrosse Club wants to thank Coach Hopkins for his contributions to their program and wish him the best. The Sun Devils travel to Santa Barbara and lose a tough one against to UC Santa Barbara 12 - 7. The loss takes them out of the WCLL playoffs.
If ASU remains in the top 12 of the MCLA rankings they will recieve an At-Large bid to the MCLA Championships in Dallas, TX May 15-19. |

The Sun Devils drop a tough one to #12 U. of Arizona 17-10, in Tucson. Junior Pete Noel led with 4 goals and 2 assists. Sophomore Tyler Westfall had 2 goals and 1 assist. Eric Nelson, Anthony LaFlam, Jonathan Sorvino. and Geoffrey Cook all scored 1 goal. ASU will now travel to UC Santa Barbara, on Sunday April 22, for the first round of the WCLL playoffs. Freshman Eric Nelson had a huge day with 7 Goals and 2 Assists. Tyler Westfall contributed 7 pts and younger brother Ryan Westfall had 6 pts. Junior Pete Noel came in with 4 Goals and 1 Assists. Overall 11 players tallied at least one point for Arizona State. Tyler Westfall remains at the top of the WCLL in scoring with Eric Nelson now ranked 4th and Ryan Westfall at 8th. The Sun Devils Clinched a playoff spot with this win and remain undefeated in division play. The Sun Devils went into their 5th game in 7 days a little beat up but ready to play. Twelve (12) players had a least 1 Goal. Sophomore Tyler Westfall led the way with 5 points, 2G, 3A. Freshman Anthony LaFlam had 3G, 1A and Senior Kalen Rickard had 2G, 1A. Ryan Westfall, Jonathon Sorvino, Kevin Rider, Harrison Frawley, Taylor Mitchell, Austin Gray, Marshall Clayton, Pete Noel and Dave O'neil all had 1 Goal. For the second time this week ASU took on the #1 ranked MCLA team. And for the second time in the same week the Sun Devils beat the #1 ranked team. ASU only trailed once with a score of 1-0. They went up by 2 goals on more than one occation with Michigan reeling them back in. Freshman goalie, Clay Tourault (pictured) had 11 saves in the second half giving ASU the win. Sophomore Tyler Westfall had another great performace with 4 goals and 3 Assists. Freshman Anthony LaFlam had 3 goals and freshman Eric Nelson had 1 goal and 2 assists. The Sun Devils were a bit sloppy playing their 3rd game in 4 days, but managing to put up 14 goals against the Cal Bears. 11 Sun Devils has at least 1pt in this game with Freshman Eric Nelson leading the scoring with 1G and 3A, Sophomore Tyler Westfall with 4A and Geoff Cook with 2G and 1A. The Oregon Ducks brought their #1 MCLA ranking to Tempe,AZ and were coming off a 1 goal loss the day before to #7 Colorado. This high scoring game came down the final seconds of the game with Ryan Westfall scoring the game winner with just :22 seconds remaining. Tyler Westfall led the Sun Devils again with a 4 goal performance in the 11-10 victory over 15th ranked Chapman. After 3 games Tyler sits near the top of the WCLL with 5.00 PPG. Freshman Eric Nelson (1G, 4A) and Ryan Westfall (3G, 1A) were also big in the Devils win. Ben Vosika won 16 of 20 face-offs and Nick Johnson scooped up 11 ground balls.
