As one of only three hundred major research universities, Arizona State University bears significant responsibility for the future of our world. There is no aspect of our teaching, research or public service that does not possess global implications.

In July 2003, the office of Pan American Initiatives was established to advance ASU’s international projects and programs, and to tackle the Global Engagement Design Imperative for developing a New American University. Global engagement is critical to the advancement of our university, the Greater Phoenix area and Arizona. It is imperative that we develop thoughtful strategies for enhancing understanding, allocating vital resources, expanding our global emphasis and augmenting our role in the international dialogue.
