The Professional Development Office of GPSA is committed to offering programs, workshops and seminars throughout the year aimed at improving the professional development of graduate and professional students at ASU. Programs that GPSA has offered include the following topics: financial planning for the graduate student, ergonomics for the office, pedagogical training for online classes, and Blackboard training. Future programs that the Professional Development Office is implementing include a violence-on-campus training, a mentoring system for incoming graduate students, and a panel discussion on applying for academic jobs.
The other main function of this office is to administer the Professional Development Travel Grant. GPSA realized that there was a need to have a travel grant for the students whose professional development fell outside of conference attendance (and therefore the Internal Affairs Office's Conference Travel Grant). Therefore, the Professional Development Travel Grant was created for students attending professional development workshops, training, exhibitions, competitions (Moot Court, for example), and interviews/auditions for internships. Travel falling under the Conference Travel Program is NOT eligible for this competition. The maximum award is $750 annually.
