Status Change Appeal

A student denied resident status may request an appeal.

Application Period

A student denied resident status may appeal the decision within 35 days from the last day of regular registration for credit for the semester. Failure to appeal within this time period constitutes a waiver of the option to appeal residency status for the specified enrollment period.

  1. Obtain the appeal instructions at the Residency Classification Section at the Tempe campus.
  2. File a written, notarized request for appeal and sign FERPA Waiver Form.
Residency Classification Section
  1. Schedule an appeal hearing and notify the student.
Residency Classification Appeals Board
  1. Hear the case, make a decision, and announce the decision to the student and all others attending the hearing.
If residency is granted:

  1. Update the student’s residency status in OASIS.
  2. Notify the appropriate university offices to process a tuition refund for the semester in which the student is currently enrolled.
If residency is denied:
  1. Send a copy of the decision to the student via certified mail.
