Bio: Shekaiba Wakili is a photographer and an art educator who lives in New York City. She was born in 1969 in Kabul, Afghanistan. She immigrated to the United States in 1980, soon after the Soviet Union invasion. She spent her teenage years in Bellmore/Merrick, Long Island, New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts and American Studies from State University of New York, College at Old Westbury, and a Master of Arts in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

She is an actively exhibited photographer whose work deals primarily with Muslim women’s issues. Shekaiba is currently working on two photographic projects entitled “Muslim Women in New York” and “Families of Muslim Victims of 9-11.” She is also curating an art exhibition entitled “Afghan-American Artists.”
