SOCIOGRAM
ASSIGNMENT
Due Date: 09/22/08
Page Length: variable (I suggest you use a landscape page format for each Sociogram).
Points: Pass/Fail
Task: All members of the same
group must watch the same episode of a TV Show or act of a Movie (get a DVD
or tape of it if you are all unavailable at the time it airs). Using a Behavioral/Observation
Checklist [e.g., SYMLOG, IPA, or one that you have created] record the data
relating to the characters behaviors. Then, using PowerPoint, individually
draw a computer generated Sociogram representing: (A) the Affiliation Relationship
[who gets along with whom] between the characters on the show and (B) the
Member Orientation [instrumental vs. socioemotional] of each of the characters
on the show. Compare them with your other group members. Finally, create a
Sociogram upon which the group can agree. Submit as a group all of your individual
and your group Sociograms, along with all of your observation sheets. All
sociograms must also include a key describing the meaning of each element
used in the diagram [e.g., shape, color, length & thickness of lines,
etc.]. You must STAPLE a TYPED
cover page to the copies to get credit for the assignment. Be prepared to
discuss your insights from this exercise with the class.
