COVID-19 tests

Home / About / Spring 2021 / COVID-19 tests

A central part of ASU’s wellness plan for students and employees, as well as the university’s commitment to be of service to the community, is access to free COVID-19 testing.

The ASU Biodesign Institute has developed a saliva-based COVID-19 test, which will be used for these tests. Test results usually are available 24 to 48 hours after providing a sample.

ASU will follow Maricopa County Public Health Department protocols related to isolation and treatment of individuals who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms or test positive. These guidelines are subject to change; visit maricopa.gov for current protocols. We ask that you avoid contact with others, except to get medical care. Do not go to class, work or public areas or use public transportation.

 ASU students and employees

To expand testing availability and access for the ASU community, the university is now offering free, individual exterior drop-off COVID-19 saliva testing to all students, faculty, and staff. We cannot extend this offer to their dependents (family members are welcome to arrange a test through the public testing; see section below).

Devils’ Drop-off unassisted exterior locations are now available at the Tempe, Polytechnic, Downtown Phoenix and West campuses.

Visit the Devils’ drop-off webpage for the exterior drop-off and pick-up location maps and more details.

Employees who test positive must contact their supervisor immediately and are expected to follow Maricopa County Public Health Department protocols related to isolation. These guidelines are subject to change; visit maricopa.gov for current protocols.

Positive COVID-19 test results will be shared only with appropriate ASU medical professionals for follow-up medical instructions, counseling and contact-tracing efforts. This process will help ensure that we maintain a safe, healthy university community.

Students who test positive are expected to follow local health department protocols related to isolation. Maricopa County Public Health Department protocols related to isolation can be found at maricopa.gov. These guidelines are subject to change; please check for current protocols if you become ill.

As a reminder, ASU student health and counseling services are available in English, Spanish, Mandarin and other languages as needed.

 The Public

Working in concert with the Arizona Department of Health Services and local officials across the state, ASU will be providing saliva-based testing for members of the public in high-need underserved communities around the state.

These tests are offered free of charge for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals.

Tests are by appointment only and can be scheduled by visiting azhealth.gov/testing — walk-in appointments are not available.
