SPP 511: Adoption Benefits Subsidy

Purpose

To provide up to $2,500 in financial assistance to support eligible staff members who are adopting a child.

Benefits-eligible, regular classified staff, university staff, and non-faculty administrators.

Policy

[horizontal rule]

  1. Employees are eligible for an Adoption Benefits Subsidy when the following conditions are met:
  • The employee is benefits-eligible both at the time the adoption is finalized and when the subsidy request is submitted.
  • The adoption is finalized on or after July 1, 2019.
  • The subsidy request is submitted within six months of the adoption's finalization.
  • A final decree of adoption is issued by a competent authority.
  • The adopted child meets the definition of an eligible child
  1. If both potential parents or domestic partners are ASU employees, only one Adoption Benefits Subsidy is allowed per family for each eligible child.
  2. Adoption subsidy amounts are determined by the university and are subject to change.
  3. The Adoption Benefits Subsidy is available to employees in a pay status immediately upon hire or benefits eligibility.

Definition of Eligible Child

The term "eligible child" means any child who has not attained age 18 or who is physically or mentally incapable of self-care, and who is not the biological child of the employee, employee's spouse, ex-spouse or domestic partner.
