SDA 108: Reduction/Cancellation/Nonrenewal of Athletics Aid

Purpose

Sun Devil Athletics seeks to consistently apply institutional policy as SDA staff review and make determinations regarding the appropriateness of proposed reductions, cancellations, and nonrenewals (modifications) of athletically related financial aid.

Policy

1. Rules Compliance Determination – The Compliance Office will decide whether a reduction, cancellation, or nonrenewal of athletics aid complies with Arizona Board of Regents, Pac-12, and NCAA rules and regulations.


2. Policy Scope – This policy does not apply to student-athletes on multi-year athletics aid agreements who have voluntarily decided not to return to ASU at the end of a term (e.g., student-athletes transferring to another institution) or student-athletes who receive permissible one-year awards (e.g., one-time exception).


3. Appeals – Student-athletes may appeal decisions to modify the financial terms of their awards. Hearings will take place in accordance with ASU institutional policy. (See SSM 303–05, “Athletic Grant-In-Aid Appeal Process”).
