Policy

[horizontal rule]

ASU Police Department will provide instructions for immediate action. If significant damage is sustained to the university, it is possible that the emergency operation center may be activated and emergency operation plans used to mitigate the situation. Notifications about the event will be sent using the university notification plan.

During most severe storms, evacuation from campus is not recommended unless accompanied by another disaster such as flood or fire.

Procedure

In the event of severe weather, such as high winds, university personnel should take the following precautions:

  1. Remain in or proceed to a permanent concrete or block structure.
  2. Stay away from all windows and glass doors.
  3. In the event of a tornado, move to interior hallways or basements.
  4. Remain in the “safe area” until advised by officials that it is safe to leave.
