ACD 810: Registration of Faculty and Academic Professional Organizations or Groups |
To register faculty and academic professional organizations operating on campus and within the structure of the university
Office of the Provost of the University
Faculty
Academic professionals
Every faculty and academic professional organization that operates within the structure and on a campus of the university, except as an official academic unit, division, committee, or board, shall register with the university. Registration shall be necessary before the facilities of the university are available to the organization.
The Office of the Provost of the University administers the registration of faculty and academic professional organizations. (Form is available here.)
Registration shall be permitted unless the university finds that an organization seeks to accomplish its local or national objectives, goals, purposes, or activities by the use of violence and advocates and incites immediate action that will probably materially and substantially interfere with the discipline and normal activities of the university and the rights of others, constituting a clear and present danger to the property, personnel, and orderly function of the university.
Membership and all privileges, including voting and officer positions, must be extended to employees within the appropriate employment category (e.g., if an organization is limited to staff), without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, national origin, disability, Vietnam era veteran status, other protected veteran status, or recently separated veteran status. Religious organizations will not be denied registration solely because they limit membership or leadership positions to individuals who share the same religious beliefs. These groups, however, may not discriminate on any other prohibited basis (i.e., race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, Vietnam-era veteran status, other protected veteran status, or recently separated veteran status).
Registration of an organization by the university does not constitute university endorsement or approval of the policies and activities of the organization.
An organization shall neither represent nor imply, in any manner, in its contacts with the public, that it speaks for or in the name of the university.
The university shall assist registered faculty and academic professional organizations by scheduling facilities for group use under the policies of the university and the Board of Regents.
