Standing Committees

The standing committees of the university encompass general university committees, including academic professional and University Senate committees. General committees function as advisory bodies to administrative officers of the university, assisting them in carrying out their respective duties. Senate committees serve as recommending bodies whose reports are submitted to the University Senate, to the president, or to the Academic Assembly for further action on the matters covered by each report.

Committee Assignment

Membership on standing senate committees is through recommendation of the Committee on Committees and election by the University Senate. Insofar as possible, all committee assignments are distributed on an equitable basis, with an effort to avoid overloading any faculty member or academic professional. It is expected that faculty members and academic professionals will participate fully in committee work to which they are assigned.

Faculty may be assigned to college and academic unit committees by their dean and chair.
