22 Across, An Anthology
of Young Writers
22 Across: A Review of Young Writers is a 160 page, perfect bound, professionally produced journal showcasing some of the year’s best fiction and poetry produced by the growing community of young writers who have participated in creative writing outreach residencies offered through ASU’s Young Writers Program (YWP) and/or its partner programs.
22 Across is published annually by Arizona State University’s Office of Youth Preparation and its Young Writers Program, which seeks to provide opportunities for Arizona students to experience creative writing as a powerful means of expression and self-discovery. Contributors are students in grades 4-12 who have participated in YWP creative writing residencies led by YWP instructors. Through a collaboration with ASU’s English Department, YWP faculty mentor and place Master of Fine Arts students from the Creative Writing Program out into the classrooms. Additional contributors come from YWP collaborations with a variety of university and community-based programs and projects that serve the K-12 community.

Featured Poem:
Desert Flora
By Genesis Rivera
Agave plants are where young warriors get their swords
Ocotillo plants are where our soldiers lived as children
Jacaranda plants are where my ancestors came to pick grapes
Oleander plants are where poets come to dream |
