Welcome!
We know that there are many things to deal with as you assume your
new position at ASU and this page was designed to make the transition
a little easier for new faculty. There is a tremendous amount of
information on the web to answer many of your questions, but it
is often difficult to know how to find it. We hope this web page
helps you locate that information and to get settled at ASU.

Welcome Events
New faculty can expect an invitation to several
events in August that are designed to orient you to ASU, and to
give you an opportunity to meet other faculty.
- All University New Faculty Orientation
More information: www.asu.edu/facultyorientation/
Human Resources
Phone: (480) 965-2701
Web: http://www.asu.edu/hr/new_employee.html
New Employee Packet:
Your department should have sent you a new employee packet. (If
not, call your department or call Human Resources to have one sent.)
Enclosed in this packet is a checklist that provides clear and succinct
information about how to deal with such matters as pay and benefits,
parking, computer access, and ID cards.
Getting Paid:
You need to complete the payroll forms that are enclosed in your
new employee packet
(PDF file) and assemble the I-9 verification/identification documents
that you will need. This must be done within 72 hours of your employment
start date, but we strongly encourage you to take care of this earlier.
We recommend that you complete the payroll forms, have the I-9 verification
form notarized, and send it directly to HR. You may choose to be
paid on a twelve-month basis, even if you are not on the payroll
until August. You must submit the payroll options form: www.asu.edu/hr/forms/payopt.pdf
by May 31. You will also have to have your insurance providers chosen
by the time you submit the form. If you wish to do this and want
more information about the benefits options, call (480) 965-2701
and ask for a benefits specialist.
New Employee Orientation Sessions:
To better serve new faculty and staff, ASU’s
weekly orientation sessions will be expanded
to a full day beginning
June 19, 2006 to offer new benefits-eligible faculty
and staff more essential services and in-depth information
about ASU. Orientation sessions
will be held on Mondays (except holidays) in USB 1302 from
8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with a lunch break around noon. To
register for orientation, call (480) 965-4751 or e-mail lps@asu.edu.
At this session, you will become
acquainted with the culture, goals, and objectives of the university,
and you will learn about available benefits and have an opportunity
to ask questions. You can also submit payroll forms
and receive a temporary ID card and a temporary parking permit. Employees
who have been entered into ASU's payroll system (HRMS) prior
to orientation may also obtain a permanent parking decal and
a permanent ID card (Sun Card).
Benefits:
Read the important information
regarding your benefits and retirement eligibility
and enrollment on the HR Benefits web site, www.asu.edu/hr/benefits. You
must elect your benefits within 30 days (retirement)
or 31 days (health, life, and disability). Please
note that your enrollment date will affect your effective
date of coverage. Detailed information is provided
in the web site.
Additional benefits information is provided in your
packet. New faculty should complete the
ASU Benefits Enrollment Form and bring it the HR Employee
Orientation.

Parking:
Phone: (480) 965-6124
Web: www.asu.edu/dps/pts/
Immediate: There are a number of visitor parking lots scattered
around the periphery of campus; visiting parking structures and
surface lots charge $1 per hour, with a maximum of $5 per day. Ask
your department if it can provide you a parking sticker for a day
or two while you make your parking arrangements.
Temporary: Present your temporary ASU ID, a photo ID, and license
plate number to Parking Services in the Towers (525 S. Forest at
Fifth St.) to receive a free, two-week temporary parking permit.
You may also secure a temporary permit by presenting this information
at the HR Employee Orientation session.
Permanent: For a permanent parking decal, go to Parking Services
in the Towers at 525 S. Forest Street. To buy a permanent decal,
you must have an Arizona license plate. To get an Arizona license
plate, you will need to go to the AZ Motor Vehicle Division. Before
making the trip, you would be wise to find out what you need (proof
of insurance, etc.) to secure Arizona plates. You may access its
web site at http://www.dot.state.az.us/MVD/mvd.htm,
then click on the “FAQs” (Frequently Asked
Questions) link under the category “General Information.” Finally,
click on the “Title and Registration” link and look
for the link that pertains to “register my out-of-state
vehicle.”
The main phone number for the MVD is (602) 255-0072.

Computer Access: ASURITE UserID
Phone: (480) 965-1211
Web: www.asu.edu/asurite
Although access to some computing services can take up to several
weeks, you should be able to receive an e-mail account several
days after your payroll paperwork has been processed. (Another
good reason for sending this material to HR before you arrive on
campus!) You will be able to obtain a computer account through
the online self-subscription process three days after your payroll
forms have been processed. You can self-subscribe by going to www.asu.edu/selfsub/ from any on-campus computer.

you submit your payroll forms. You can also get a temporary ID from
your department's head staff person, or at the new employee orientation.
Sun Card (Permanent ASU Photo ID): Obtain a Sun Card
at the Sun Card Office located on the lower level of the Memorial
Union (MU, south end inside Union Station) two weeks after you submit your payroll forms. This
ID may be used to obtain library privileges and bookstore and events
ticket discounts. Call (480) 965-2273 with Sun Card questions or
