Kevin McGraw removes birds from the trap. At his left is Amir Lewin, an undergraduate student on an exchange program from York Universtiy in Toronto , Canada , who helped with the research this summer. The birds are gently removed from the trap by hand and placed in paper bags to hold them while they wait their turn to be examined, photographed and banded. The paper bags are used for reasons of sterility, to prevent the possible spread of disease from bird to bird.
