2009 Pat's Run Tempe

More than 20,000 runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators descended on Tempe April 18 for the fifth annual Pat’s Run Tempe.

Academic Bowl 2008

ASU hosted its third annual Academic Bowl, featuring 15 teams of undergraduate students competing for college pride and scholarship money in a fast-pace, question-and-answer format.



First week of classes
Aug. 25-29, 2008

Thousands of new and returning students settled into new residence halls, navigated campus and started classes as the fall 2008 academic year began at Arizona State University.



Memorial Union Grand Reopening
Aug. 28, 2008

Just in time for the fall semester, ASU celebrated the reopening of its renovated Memorial Union on the Tempe campus. The central hub of the Tempe campus now includes a new sustainable dining facility, additional stairwells and the use of eco-friendly features throughout.



Back to School 2008
Aug. 20, 2008

ASU officially began the fall semester Aug. 25, but the noticeable rise in excitement and activity rose in the days before the semester. Students from around the globe began moving into the residence halls, buying books and supplies, taking tours of campus and participating in a variety of activities on all four ASU campuses.



Polytechnic Elementary School - Opening Day
Aug. 11, 2008

Classes began Aug. 11 at the Polytechnic Elementary School, north of ASU’s Polytechnic campus in Mesa. The K-6 school is managed by University Public Schools, Inc., a non-profit organization that works in collaboration with Arizona State University.



2008 Summer Programs

ASU is a busy place, and summer is no exception. Along with hosting summer session classes, the university’s facilities host a variety of summer programs for students of all ages. From arts to engineering, from archaeology to journalism, and from sports to law, ASU’s summer programs offer something for everyone.



Sun Devil Softball: National Champions!

The ASU community came out to welcome home the ASU softball champions at Farrington Stadium, after the team clinched its first-ever national softball title. The Sun Devils posted an 11-0 victory June 3 over Texas A&M at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City and ended the postseason with a perfect 10-0 mark.



2008 Spring Commencement

A record 8,000 students celebrated their graduation from Arizona State University May 8 surrounded by their family, friends, teachers and the university community.



Pat's Run 2008

The finish line has been crossed for the fourth annual Pat's Run – an event that honors the memory of former Sun Devil and Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman.

China Youth Space Academy

High school students from China and Nogales, Ariz. teamed up to participate in ASU's first-ever China Youth Space Academy.

Every August, football fever takes hold over the Valley. Sun Devil fans come out of hibernation with high hopes and big dreams. Looking back, ASU exceeded expectations, riding to as high as No. 5 in the national rankings, a 10-2 record and a share of the Pac-10 Conference title.



China Youth Academy 2007

The launch pad is ready to go. The television set for the China Space Youth Academy competition in Beijing features Mars images taken with ASU's Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) camera on NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft.

The third annual Pat's Run took over ASU's Tempe campus April 7. About 13,000 participants showed up to honor former Sun Devil and Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman, who left the world of professional athletics to serve his country in the U.S. Army.

From robots and glass blowing to storm chasing and nanometers, participants in the annual science exposition got what they bargained for – a hands-on chance to SEE ASU.
