On April 22 former ASU student athlete Pat Tillman was killed in action in Afghanistan. A shrine was created at Sun Devil stadium to honor him and his service. Private and public services were held in May at the stadium, and the number he wore at ASU – 42 – was retired during halftime ceremonies of the Washington State football game.
