TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- Information
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL®) is used to evaluate the English profiency of people
whose native language is not English. TOEFL® scores are used by colleges, government agencies, scholarship
programs and licensing/certification agencies. TOEFL® testing policies and procedures, bulletins as well as
free test-prep software are available at
www.ets.org/toefl.
- Schedule
- The TOEFL® test is offered in two testing formats: Internet-based testing
(iBT) and paper-based testing (PBT). The format you take depends on your
test center location, and
tests will be administered on fixed dates. For

- Cost
- The current fee for the TOEFL® is $150.00.
- Time
- The exam consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The total appointment
time is approximately four and one half hours.
- Register
- Register online at www.ets.org/toefl. You can
also register by calling the TOEFL® national registration line at 1-800-468-6335. Visa, MasterCard,
American Express, Discover, JCB or electronic check (e-check) are acceptable forms of payment.
Registration at the test center is not available at this time. The deadline to register online or by phone
is seven days prior to the test date.
- Reschedule
- Once the appointment is made, notification must be given three full days prior to your test date (not
including the day of your test or the day of your request) to reschedule for a $40.00 fee or to cancel for
a refund of one-half of your original testing fee.
- Admission
- The reporting time for admission is always 30 minutes before your scheduled
appointment time. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must present a valid
passport to be admitted to test at our testing center. If you do not have a
passport, contact ETS at 1-609-406-5430 or
TSReturns@ets.org before scheduling your appointment. Please review specific
ID requirements in the TOEFL® bulletin.
- Scores
- Scores are posted online 15 business days after the test date (with a few
exceptions) and then mailed to you and your designated score recipients.
You will not receive an unofficial score at the end of the testing session.
Test centers do not provide printed scores for the test.
