TEAS® (Test of Essential Academic Skills)

General Information

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)®, Version V, evaluates areas that are essential for academic success in nursing programs.  This computer-based, multiple choice exam is divided into four sub-tests:

  • Reading (48 questions/58 minutes) – paragraph comprehension and passage comprehension
  • Mathematics (34 questions/51 minutes) – numbers and operations, algebraic applications, data interpretation, measurement
  • Science (54 questions/66 minutes) – human body science, life science, earth and physical science, scientific reasoning
  • English and Language Usage (34 questions/34 minutes) – grammar and word meanings in context, spelling and punctuation, structure

Total test time is 3 hours and 29 minutes. You should allow approximately 4 hours for the total appointment time which includes time for the check-in process and exam instructions.

Special Accommodations

To receive disability accommodations you must be registered with the ASU Disability Resource Center and be approved for special accommodations. Please do not register for a group testing time. Individual testing arrangements must be made with the Program Coordinator at University Testing and Scanning Services.

Cost

The TEAS costs $63.00.

Reschedule or Cancel a Test Appointment

Transfer of the test fee to another test date can be made under the following conditions:

  • Space is available on the requested test date.
  • No more than 7 days have passed since the originally scheduled test date.
  • To transfer the test date, submit your admission ticket along with a $15.00 check or money order payable to Arizona State University.

Retake

You may retake the TEAS one time per advancement cycle. Admission deadlines are:

  • Spring – September 1
  • Fall – March 1
  • Summer – January 15

You may re-test in a given cycle only if your composite score failed to meet the minimum requirement (http://nursingandhealth.asu.edu/files/programs/nursing/undergraduate/bsn/prenursing-workbook.pdf)  and it has been at least 30 days since your last TEAS exam. Failure to comply with these restrictions will result in the cancellation of your test results and forfeiture of your entire exam fee of $63.00. TEAS exam scores will be valid for 12 months.

Prior to Arriving to Take the Exam

Prior to arriving at University Testing and Scanning Services to take the exam, you need to create an account with ATI. Please go to www.atitesting.com and click on Create New Account. It takes about five minutes to complete this process. You will need to enter the user name and password that you create in order to access the test. You MUST bring that information with you when you come to test.

Admission to the Exam

Exam entrance requires an admission ticket along with valid photo ID. The name on your photo ID must match the name on your admission ticket. YOU MUST CHECK IN AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE TEST TIME TO BE ADMITTED. You must also know or have with you your 10-digit ASU af
