Information

DSST exams are available in 38 unique subjects.  Disciplines include Business, Humanities, Mathematics, Physical Science, and more.  You may obtain a candidate bulletin at: http://getcollegecredit.com/downloads/DSST_CIB.pdf. [PDF, 1.8MB]

Equivalency

Students who have taken a DSST (DANTES [Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Support] Subject Standardized Test) may receive university credit. Credit is awarded for score results at or above the American Council on Education’s recommended score if the subject examination is applicable to a program of study at ASU or may be assigned elective credit. To receive credit, a transcript showing the DSST results must be received by ASU directly from the DSST Prometric.

Restrictions

DSST credit is not given at ASU when any of the following situations apply:

  • It duplicates credit previously earned by the student at the university or accepted by the university for work done elsewhere.
  • It is more elementary than a course in the same field in which the student has already received credit.
  • An ASU student has already earned more than 60 semester hours of comprehensive credit (proficiency exams).

Cost

DSST fees total $108 and must be paid in two separate payments: a $28 non-refundable registration fee in the form of a credit/debit card or e-check and an exam fee of $80 payable to DSST - Prometric by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or JCB) on exam day. Cash payments cannot be accepted.

Active military members (includes Reserve Components and Coast Guard Personnel), spouses and civilian employees of:  Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and Coast Guard (Active and Reserve) and DoD acquisition workforce personnel are only required to pay the $28 registration fee to ASU.  The $80 exam fee is funded by DSST.  NOTE:  DoD Acquisition Workforce Personnel are only eligible for the following DSST exams:  Principles of Statistics, Principles of Finance, Principles of Financial Accounting, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, and Business Law II.

Retirees, Civil Service Employees, Spouses and Family Members of other Military Personnel (other than eligible civilian personnel listed above) are responsible for both the $25 registration fee payable to Arizona State University AND the $80 test fee payable to DSST.
