The School of Life Sciences offers a capstone course in ISSUES IN BIOTECHNOLOGY The Business of Biotechnology (MBB 490)
The two-semester capstone course in the B.S. Program in Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology is planned to introduce students to various aspects of the biotechnology industry. It will integrate knowledge gained in science and humanities courses within the context of biotechnology. In particular, this course is intended to provide a forum for analyzing and discussing issues that relate to doing science in a commercial setting. Non-science issues will also be discussed, such as case studies of business practices and how these factors influence the science.
The focus of the Fall semester is on the Business of Biotechnology. Topics will include intellectual property and the role of patents, legal issues in biotechnology, and the modus operandi of business and marketing.
