Frequently Asked Questions

University Audit and Advisory Services (University Audit) is available to assist departments with a variety of projects, such as, consulting engagements or audits. Requests for services will be initiated at the vice president level and are directed to the Vice President for University Administration and Legal Affairs.

How do I arrange for an Internal Control Educational Seminar in my area?

To arrange an Internal Control Seminar, please contact the Director of University Audit and Advisory Services at 965-5511. The seminars are about one hour in length. The presentation also includes an introduction of the staff and time for questions and answers.

How do I know when my unit is scheduled for an audit?

Departments are selected for audit using a risk-based audit plan. At the beginning of each fiscal year, the appropriate vice presidents/provosts, deans, and directors are notified of audits to be conducted in their areas. University Audit and Advisory Services is somewhat flexible when scheduling the exact start dates for the audits, considering factors such as staffing levels and busy periods. Prior to the audit, an Introductory Memorandum will be sent to the responsible vice provost or dean and the director of the program being audited.

Who should I contact with questions about University Audit & Advisory Services?

For general questions, contact the Director of University Audit and Advisory Services at 965-5511. For questions about a specific audit in-progress, contact the responsible auditor. Also, you may refer to the Comptroller's Manual, Section 700, for additional applicable policies/procedures.

What should I do if I suspect University assets have been misappropriated?

An individual who suspects that University assets have been misappropriated can take several steps. They should report the matter to their supervisor or other management staff in their department, as appropriate. They should also report the matter to their respective vice president, the Director of ASU Police, and the Director of University Audit and Advisory Services. The individual can also report the matter through ASU's Safety and Compliance Hotline. Also, please refer to the Staff Personnel Policy Manual Section 812 or the Academic Affairs Manual Section 123.
