Stauffer Communication Arts
Ammenities
ASU's renowned programs in journalism, broadcasting, and the study of communication have a home in Stauffer Hall. Because of the caliber of these academic programs, two legends—Walter Cronkite and Hugh Downs—have lent their names to schools located in this building.
ASU boasts the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication. Students majoring in journalism and broadcasting consistently place in the top five in the Hearst Foundation’s Intercollegiate Competitions, considered the “Pulitzer of college journalism.”
Stauffer is also home to KAET, the local PBS television station, operated by some of the best television professionals in the field, and KASC “The Blaze,” at 1260 AM, ASU’s student-run radio station. Many students find internships and employment at these stations, which help them prepare for careers in media.
Built in 1973, the building honors Charles A. Stauffer, an alumnus of ASU, who was the former owner and publisher of the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette newspapers.
