The Weatherup Center is home to the men's and women's basketball programs, and was completed in spring 2009. The facility utilizes LEED-certified, renewable maple wood flooring. Solar panels installed on the roof will provide 45 percent of the building's electricity. A large portion of the construction used recycled and locally manufactured materials. Occupancy sensors and window shades reduce energy consumption, and low-flow water use fixtures are employed throughout the building. Native and drought-tolerant plants reduce overall water consumption, and reflective roof and paving materials reduce the urban heat island effect of the building.
The Weatherup Center is pending certification on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
