Location: CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Located on the southern tip of the African continent, Cape Town is a city with a diverse range of attractions, sights and activities to offer. From lavish and luxurious to back-packing on a budget. Cape Town has something for everyone at any time. From the landmark beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay to the vibrant V&A Waterfront and Cape Town city centre and the award winning wine farms, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The City is a rare cultural gem, resulting from the amalgamation of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers, the local Bushman and indigenous tribes
Eligibility: Open to all BIS majors who have completed BIS 301 and BIS 302 with a C or better, and with a GPA of 2.0 or better. All concentration areas are welcome. Other majors are welcome to apply as well although priority will be given to BIS students. Students must submit an application packet (click here to obtain the packet ) to Dr. Mirna Lattouf by February 2, 2007 to be considered for participation. (After that date, applications will be considered on a space available basis.) All applicants will be notified in mid-February as to their program status. Those selected to participate will be sent further instructions at that time regarding completing their program application and paying their $450 non-refundable program deposit.


Academic
Program:
BIS 401--Applied Interdisciplinary Studies will provide students with the opportunity to have an in person learning experience with a culture other than theirs. Students will have non-paid internships with various organizations all over Cape Town. They will have the challenge to learn how individuals work with one another, resolve conflicts, deal with stress, and express their work values and ethics in South Africa.

BIS 402--Senior Seminar “South Africa--before and after Apartheid.” Social and cultural development of the Apartheid system in the history of South Africa.

Living
Accommodations:
Accommodations in multi-bedded rooms in dorm-style student housing in the student friendly Cape Town suburb of Observatory. Students will be housed together in the same building with no more than four students to a room.
Cost: The cost of $3,225 (subject to possible change) includes: lodging, organized excursions, and local transportation. Not included: ASU tuition and fees, airfare (approx. $2,080), meals, passport fees, school supplies, and other personal expenses.
