Veterans Upward Bound

Academic Focus

English

  • Reading, literacy, composition and grammar

Math

  • Basic math through pre-calculus

Computer Literacy

  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Open computer lab

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

  1. Visit our office to complete a basic application form.
  2. Complete a math and English evaluation.
  3. Establish a class schedule compatible with your availability.

Services OFFERED TO ENROLLED VETERANS

Academic Preparation

  • Assess academic skills
  • Evaluate educational goals
  • Build skills required for academic success
  • Prepare for admissions requirements
  • Prepare for GED exams (if necessary)

Career Selection

  • Evaluate career opportunities
  • Assess personal skills and interests
  • Provide job interview assistance
  • Provide resume assistance

Additional Services

  • Issuance of bus passes while enrolled at VUB
  • Assist with financial aid and scholarship applications
  • Provide assistance with enrollment process at the school of your choice

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Eligible veterans must have served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days
  • Federal reservists must have served for more than 30 consecutive days
  • Federal reservists must have been called to active duty on, or after September 11, 2001
  • Discharge status must be anything other than dishonorable
  • Veterans must qualify as low-income and/or whose parents do not have a four-year college degree

COST/BENEFITS

  • All instruction and services are free.
  • Eligible veterans may qualify to receive VA educational benefits while attending our program.
  • Comparable courses offered at colleges and universities require veterans to pay the tuition rate established by that particular school.
