WHAT IS VETERANS UPWARD BOUND?Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is an educational program designed to meet the needs of the veterans who seek to improve their academic skills in English, reading skills, math and computer literacy. VUB provides free instruction, assists with financial aid and scholarship applications, directs veterans to Veterans Administration services, and helps them connect with the educational institution of their choice. OUR MISSIONThe Mission of the ASU Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program is to provide free academic instruction and career guidance that will enhance the veteran's ability to succeed in their educational goals beyond high school. |
DIRECTOR'S MESSAGEDear Veteran, The Veterans Upward Bound program is federally funded through the Department of Education. The purpose of the program is two-fold: 1) to ensure that the veteran receives the required instruction that will promote the desired capability in the areas of Math, English, and Computer Skills; and 2) will provide the veteran with the skills and support needed to successfully complete his/her chosen post-secondary program. The eligibility requirements established by the Department of Education are as follows:
Recognizing that your work and other commitments may impose certain constraints on your time, we have developed an instructional schedule that allows for day or evening classes. Our open-entry and open-exit program allows you to start at the earliest date possible and to finish as soon as you reach the skill levels required for your program. In addition to our classroom instruction we are prepared to provide you assistance with the application process for admission as well as the required research and application for financial aid. There is no monetary expense for the veteran who qualifies to enroll in our program. The only real expenditure is in the form of time and effort. Our staff members believe that our veterans are capable of reaching whatever academic goals they may choose. We have all heard that “the longest journey begins with the first step”. We sincerely hope that you will take advantage of our program and allow us to be of assistance in your journey. Arizona State University is extremely proud of its academic excellence. While we hope that you will give our programs your serious consideration, we do remind you that you are free to select any given program at the school of your choice. We thank you for your service to our country and invite you to stop by our office at your earliest convenience. We are prepared to treat you with the courtesy and respect that is due a veteran of our armed forces. Respectfully, Bob Mena Program Director
