Grad locale
angers some at ASU East Graduating seniors at ASU East have
mixed feelings about the location of their graduation convocation
ceremony: a tented area in a parking lot. The ceremony will be
held in a parking lot because ASU East lacks a facility that can
hold the expected 700 people, according to Vinette Williams, an
academic programs director.
University
presidents ask ABOR for $100 tuition hike The presidents of
Arizona's three public universities have proposed a $100 in-state
tuition increase and a $300-$400 increase for out-of-state tuition.
MAG set to
vote on proposed US 60 expansion in Tempe The debate over
US 60 expansion in Tempe is expected to reach its pinnacle today
when the Maricopa Association of Governments will vote on the
issue. MAG, composed of Maricopa County mayors, will vote on the
2001-2005 Transportation Improvement Plan. The plan, if approved,
will create a carpool lane along the stretch of highway in Tempe.
FDA will
not regulate tobacco as addictive drug The Supreme Court ruled
Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration cannot regulate
tobacco as an addictive drug. Mary Rimza, director of ASU Student
Health, fears that taking jurisdiction of tobacco away from the
FDA will pull the issue out of the health arena where it belongs
placing it solely in the hands of Congress, where it will be handled
as a political issue.
Tempe accepting
applications for leadership program Applications for the intensive
nine-month Tempe Leadership class program, modeled after Valley
Leadership and exposing students to issues affecting the community,
are due March 31. In the past, 20 applicants have been selected
each year to learn about the city's government, business and culture.

House misses final shot at buzzer as Sun Devils lose NIT heartbreaker

|
House's brick
at buzzer ends Sun Devils' season, career Just like Eddie House
wanted it, the season came down to this: the clock melting away and
the ball in his hands with a chance to tie NC State.
House only option
in Sun Devils' offense Practically all night in Tuesday's 60-57
ASU loss to NC State, Eddie House was the only Sun Devil option on offense.
In their lowest scoring output since the 82-55 UA loss on Jan. 26, the
Sun Devils shot 37 percent minus House.
Enthusiastic
Yarno captures line's attention at spring practice George Yarno
was ready for spring to begin. "God dang, it's finally time for some
football!" ASU's new offensive line coach bellowed as he walked onto
the practice field yesterday for the first day of spring practice. The
question was, were the Sun Devil linemen ready for Yarno? The colorful,
boisterous coach, who replaced Dan Cozzetto in the offseason, jumped
on his players from the start of strecthes, usually jokingly but at
times quite seriously.
Duncan rewarded
for stellar performance with Player of the Week honor The ASU baseball
team had its second National Player of the Week of the season named
Tuesday. Jeff Duncan earned the honor with a .650 batting average (13-for-20)
in five games last week with nine RBI and nine runs scored.

Editorial:
Asphalt ceremony not enough for East grads After four years of hard
work, dedication, 7:40 a.m. classes, all-nighters and other typical
college student tribulations, a graduating senior might expect a great
job, a car or maybe even a big wad of cash.
Tales
about Jerome hotel's 'friendly' ghosts haunt visitors Is Casper
really a friendly ghost? Spring Break may have held a lot of questions
for all of you -- which beach to lay on, which drink had the highest
proof, which casino could get the highest winnings, which ghosts were
the friendliest ...
Calif.
copy replaces old Mill Avenue I have a question for you. Take the
self-centered, self-righteous overall mentality of the city of Scottsdale.
Mix it with the crass commercialism of Las Vegas, the egotistical nature
of Melrose Place, the back-stabbing ideals of Hollywood, a high credit
limit, silicone, MTV, a violent urge for as much money as possible and
a total disrespect for the small businessman.
'Smart
homeless guy' could use ASU as tool for success "I'd be the smart
homeless guy ..." Everyone thinks they could do that. They could be
one of the clever homeless guys. They'd be the MacGyver of the homeless
kingdom who would make his way on the streets with only a stick of gum
and some duck tape.
