Established music artists foray into the realm of MP3s and the Internet, proving that in cyberspace, people can hear you sing

The hype of MP3 and internet-driven sales has created a stir within the music industry that has the major labels shaking in their shoes, but the musicians waving Web-enhanced flags of independence.

With the onslaught of technology in music dispersed throughout the Internet, many smaller independent labels have started up -- labels that offer MP3 and other audio file-driven sites that bring fans music quicker and cheaper.

Rapper Ice-T is a big supporter of this promotional paradigm shift.

"I been signed to Warner Brothers, I got to see what that was. I did the Virgin thing, it's all good -- I got released," Ice-T said. "I decided I don't want to fuck with the majors. The Net is what's happenin', MP3 is happenin'."
