Oil, pastel and watercolor paintings will brighten the lobby walls of ASU's Gammage Auditorium through Jan. 16, by way of a presentation titled "Images -- The Last 100 Years."

The exhibit includes 59 pieces that were provided by the Scottsdale Artist League, a non-profit organization that promotes art appreciation in the community. The individual works range in price from $100 to $4,000, and were chosen by an outside judge who was hired by the league.

Gammage Art Coordinator Leslie Davis said the exhibit, which comes to the auditorium every other year, serves as a launching pad for artists. She said the University does not, however, receive any commission from the sales.

Rita Goldner, an artist within the league, said she thinks that Gammage is a perfect place for this exhibit because visual and performing arts go hand in hand.

"The agenda for our club is to do things with other cultural entities in the community," she said. "We try to encourage the practice of art and promote the interest of all forms of art."

Through the sales of their work, the league is able to provide annual scholarships to high school and college and for other charitable projects, said D. Joan Crawford, co-chair of publicity for the league.

"Through these exhibits, the league hopes to foster good fellowship and interests in the community," Crawford said.
