About 120 children at Phoenix Children's Hospital on Thanksgiving Day will enjoy a festival filled with music and activities organized by a group of students from a recreational programming class at ASU.

The festival was chosen to take place on Thanksgiving morning to help lift the children's spirits at holiday time when they are far from home, said Pamela Lange, a recreational programming senior who is a member of the festival's planning group.

"We want this festival to contribute to a child's life in some way," Lange said. "You get twice as much back when you give to a child in need. Even if this festival is only for a couple of hours, it can brighten their whole day."

Jill Singleton, a recreational therapy senior and a member of the planning group for the festival, said the event gives the children something to look forward to on a family-oriented holiday.

"The event took an entire semester to plan and I am really looking forward to being with the children," said Singleton. "It (the festival) gives me a sense of giving something back to the community."
