Tutor
Tutors work with ASU students to facilitate learning subject-specific concepts, skills, and strategies for ASU classes. Applications for the position can be found by scrolling to the bottom of this page.
What do Tutors do?
- Tutor students in person at residential learning resource centers throughout the Tempe campus
- Tutor students online, allowing both real-time tutoring and a way for students to send in questions at any hour for later responses
- Facilitate student learning in math, business, physical and life sciences, languages, composition, and engineering
- Present test reviews
- Create learning materials for tutors and students
- Promote the tutoring program
- Participate in ongoing training
Requirements
Tutors
- Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in area(s) of expertise
- Turn in unofficial transcripts and a faculty recommendation form from an ASU faculty member for each tutoring subject area
- Must be at least a sophomore
- Must have taken classes in tutoring areas at ASU
- Possess excellent communication skills and a desire to help students

Pay Rate
$9.50/hr (beginning Fall 2009)

Training
Beginning tutors take a six-hour online tutor-training course and meet once for a six-hour in person training. Ongoing trainings throughout the semester occur during staff meetings and one- and two-hour workshops.
