New Student Orientation 2007
On Friday, August 17th at 10:00 AM, this year’s New Student Orientation (known by many as Convocation) took place at Wells Fargo Arena as students, staff, faculty, and family members gathered to listen to President Crow welcome this year’s new students to Arizona State University. The West, Downtown, and Polytechnic campuses were also gathered on their own campuses to watch President Crow through a satellite connection. Residential Life was proud to be able to support this event as Community Assistants around campus gathered their residents and headed to Wells Fargo Arena together. This year, over 6300 participants sat around the arena, almost 2000 more individuals than last year. Five ASU Spirit Bags were given away to five lucky residence hall students, including ASU items from the ASU Bookstore valued at approximately $50.00. Congratulations to the following five Convocation participants:

Zhao-Xu Liu of Hassayampa Academic Village |
 |
David Hodges of Palo Verde Main |
 |
Brandon Burm of Manzanita Hall |
 |
Cody Bowman of McClintock Hall |

"Season Pass" , The flu campaign at ASU

The flu season is rapidly approaching. Dr. Markus, Director of ASU Campus Health Service states: “ASU will be running a unique flu campaign this year called Season Pass. Our Season Pass partners are assisting us in this effort with the goal to get a majority of the ASU campus protected this year against the flu. Students and Staff who get the flu shot will on average miss less class and less work than those who don't get the shot. You cannot get the flu from the flu shot!!! Come and get yourself protected for the Season.”
A study presented at the 2005 American College Health Association conference stated that in America, the flu is second only to stress as the reason why students withdraw from class. ASU Campus Health Center is committed to both the prevention and treatment of health problems, especially the flu. That’s why we are proud to sponsor the Season Pass flu vaccination program to take place on campus:

Ten Vehicles for Rent at Tempe campus

(Flex Car parking spots @ Tempe campus)
Did you know that there are 10 vehicles parked on the Tempe campus that are yours for the renting? Scions, Honda hybrids, a Toyota Tacoma and even a MINI Cooper are all part of the Flexcar fleet at ASU.
Flexcar is a car-sharing company that rents low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles by the half-hour, hour or day (for up to three days). Rates start as low as $8/hour and cover all expenses; FREE gas, FREE insurance and FREE maintenance! Parking and Transit Services brought the Flexcar program to ASU in September to offer yet another valuable transportation option to members of the university community.
Renting a car from Flexcar is easy! All you need to do is go to www.flexcar.com/oncampus and click on the “ASU” link. Follow the steps to sign up online for Flexcar membership. Your first year of membership is FREE if you sign up before Nov. 28. The annual fee is $35; however, this fee is waived if you rent a Flexcar at least twice in one year.
Not 21 yet? Not a problem! ASU students ages 18 and older are eligible for Flexcar membership. Sign up TODAY and enter the promotional code of ASU18 if you are 18-20 years old or ASU21 if you are 21 or older.
Once you are a Flexcar member, you will receive a membership card in the mail. You can then go online or call Flexcar to reserve a vehicle. When it’s time for your reservation, go to the vehicle’s reserved spot on campus, unlock the doors using your membership card and locate the keys and gas card inside the glove box. Upon returning to campus, park the car in the same spot where you picked it up and lock the doors behind you using your card. It’s that simple!
So whether you need a car for a trip to the grocery store, a jaunt to the mall or for a weekend getaway, you can get into the driver’s seat with Flexcar at ASU!

Security Student Committee (S3C) meeting
Have you seen some sketchy business about? Do you have a unique perspective on safety? Are you interested in making ASU a safer campus for everyone? Then the Safety and Security Student Committee (S3C) needs your help! The Student Committee is a chance for students to get involved in their own safety and to have their voice heard by residence hall staff and Residential Life officials. These are the people who can do something about your concerns and suggestions. The S3C is also all about getting students to be responsible for their own safety. For that reason, the S3C will be putting on several sponsored events throughout the semester to educate students on how they can be safer on and off campus.
The first meeting is very soon! If you are interest please attend!
