POLYTECHNIC TUTOR-COACHES

Polytechnic Tutor-Coaches work with ASU students to facilitate learning subject-specific concepts, skills, and strategies for ASU classes and serve as liaisons with the faculty. They also coach students and help to connect students with appropriate campus resources. Applications for the position can be found by scrolling to the bottom of this page.

What do Tutor-Coaches do?

  • Tutor students in person at the Polytechnic campus in math and science or in writing
  • Coach students at the Polytechnic campus
  • Serve as liaisons to the faculty in their tutoring areas
  • Help to connect students with campus resources, including academic, heath and wellness, and special interest
  • Provide test reviews, writing workshops, or success workshops throughout the year
  • Create and manage a tutoring and coaching resource library in the hall with books and handouts.
  • Coordinate tutoring and coaching promotions, including tabling events and flyer distribution to residents and at various campus locations.

Requirements

Tutor-Coaches

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in subject area expertise
  • To tutor writing: Have earned an A or A- in ENG 101 and ENG 102 or in ENG 105
  • Must be enrolled at Arizona State University during term of employment
  • Have earned 24 or more credit hours (Sophomore status and higher)
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills

Compensation

  • Single room in University Housing on the Polytechnic campus

Training

  • Attend hall staff meetings as well as tutoring and coaching meetings (occasional travel to the Tempe campus may be required).
  • Attend all trainings for tutoring and coaching (may require some travel to the Tempe campus)
