Desk Assistants (DAs) are customer service representatives at a 24-hour residence hall front desk. The front desk serves as a primary source of information and service for residents. Applications for the position can be found by scrolling to the bottom of this page.
What do Desk Assistants do?
- DAs are familiar with all desk procedures, i.e. the telephone etiquette, administrative tasks, filing, key checkouts, equipment checkouts…
- DAs are pleasant, friendly, and helpful during any interaction with residents, visitors, and staff members
- DAs play an important role in establishing a positive environment for all who live and work in the hall
- DAs contribute to a safe and secure residence hall environment
Requirements
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester
- Graduate students must be enrolled in 6 credit hours
- Accept employment for a nine-month period beginning with August training and concluding at the end of spring semester in May
- Strong customer service, teamwork, phone and administrative skills
- The ability to work weekends, early mornings, nights and holidays on a regular or irregular basis
- Approximately 10-20 hours per week
- Be in good standing with Residential Life and Student Life.

Pay Rate:
$7.25/hr
Selection process
The selection process for Desk Assistant positions takes place on an ongoing basis. Interviews are offered to qualified candidates as needed throughout the year.

Training
Desk Assistants will need to return to the halls in early August of each semester and in early January to attend training.

- DAs also learn how to work with students, residence hall staff, and other university staff members
