Native American Achievement Program

Student
Action Course
Participation in the program
is through the NAAP Student Action Course
(NAAP-SAC). This is a booklet designed to help
students make the transition/adjustment to
university life, ensure academic success,
instill skills needed to succeed in college,
and foster career development. Participants
work with NAAP advisors to follow the
prescribed items in NAAP-SAC. The NAAP-SAC
contain the necessary information and forms to
document program participation.
Basic
Requirements
All students are required to participate in
the following basic requirements:

Orientation: Students
participate in an on-campus NAAP
orientation at the beginning of each
semester.

Instructor Visits: Students
meet with each of their instructors twice
per semester. Students schedule their own
appointments and the instructor records
the visit on the Instructor Visit Log.
Additional visits may be necessary to
meet the student's needs.

Academic Advisor Visits:
Students meet with an academic advisor
twice per semester. Students schedule
appointments and the academic advisor
records the visit on the Academic
Advising Log. Additional visits may be
necessary.

NAAP Staff Visits: Students
meet with NAAP staff four times per
semester. Staff review the visit logs and
address academic and personal concerns.

Workshops: Students attend
one workshop per semester. The workshops
focus on important subject matter that
relate to student's personal lives from
relationships and substance abuse to
their professional lives including
internships and careers.

Events: Students
participate in socials, special events
and end-of-the-year banquet.

All NAAP students are members of Native
Americans Taking Initiative ON Success
(NATIONS), a student driven organization
aimed at improving student success.
