Multicultural Student Services

Native American Achievement Program

Philosophy

In keeping with the Native American backgrounds of the students, the NAAP is designed with the wisdom of the Native American traditional elders and leaders in mind. The NAAP supports a holistic and balanced approach to the growth and development of each student in school and life. This includes the physical, intellectual, emotional/social, and spiritual/cultural (P.I.E.S.) growth.

Goals

  1. NAAP will assist with the transition of the participating students by creating an environment that emphasizes involvement, inclusion and identification with the ASU community.
  2. NAAP will provide assistance by identifying accessible academic and personal development services for participating students.
  3. NAAP will endeavor to enhance awareness of career development among these students.
  4. NAAP will generally provide assistance to scholarship recipients to ease any difficulty in understanding the ASU system.
  5. NAAP and the participating tribes will discuss/develop strategies and, to the extent permitted by law, advocate changes to the accessibility, retention and education opportunities for tribal students at postsecondary institutions.
