| March: “Pathways to Careers” Job Series |
GOOD NEWS! Just because you major in bio-molecular engineering (or something else) doesn’t mean that you have to have a professional career in that field. You may to decide to go to school and learn a lot about the field you study and decided to not to go into that profession, or utilize another skills set or passion all together. As many ASU alumni and researchers will share, college is an exciting time to learn and gain a better understanding of yourself and how you will navigate and interact with others. Through your experience in classes, the residence halls, and in student organizations, you will be challenged to overcome adversity, manage your time and engage in self exploration. Your first year is the time to begin mapping out how your time in college will assist you and pave opportunities for your professional aspirations. Whether you know, you think you know, or you have no idea what you want to do after your time at ASU, now is the time to begin to learn and explore all that is available as a possibility. Though career exploration can be an overwhelming process, it is beneficial to begin exploring pathways to careers early in your college experience. This will assist you in making the choices necessary to achieve your goals. ASU Career Services offers a variety of resources to assist students in their career exploration. One tool that you can use from your own room is the self guided “STEPS model” for Successful Career Planning. This model will assist you in assessing and understanding your personal values and skills, and connect how this information can be useful in your academic and professional pursuits.
