Success Coach

Job Description:
Success Coaching is an innovative and unique peer-assisted approach to supporting and promoting student academic success. Trained coaches use research-based materials from education and psychology to help students achieve academic success through weekly coaching sessions by e-mail, online or in-person. Coaches motivate students toward their academic goals by providing structure, support, feedback and referrals.

Coaches work a minimum of 15 hours per week at an LRC site. Mandatory training is provided. Attendance at bi-weekly staff meetings is required. Coaches are required to maintain files on their students and adhere to strict rules of confidentiality. Other duties may include assisting with marketing and data entry.

Skills/Experience Required:
Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, be organized and dependable and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Requires strong leadership skills and enthusiasm for helping others. Applicants should be familiar with ASU programs and services and have completed at least two semesters at ASU. Mentoring experience is desired. Professional attitude and appearance a plus.

Front Desk Assistant

Job Description:
Front desk assistants greet and assist visitors, answer the phone, photocopy, distribute mail, file, do data entry, run errands and perform other duties as assigned. Enthusiasm, professionalism, and the ability to multi-task are essential.
Skills/Experience Required:
Professional attitude and appearance, dependability, and excellent communication skills required. Previous office experience, including use of Word processing and spreadsheets desired. Applicants with knowledge of Learning Resource Center services preferred.

FYRE Fellow Fall 2010

Job Description:
FYRE Fellows bridge the gap between campus life and the need for academic support within the residence halls.  Serving as a peer advocate, leader, and resource referral for first year students in their community, Fellows will create a presence of resources, and academic support, assist student in navigating and making connections within the university environment, role model success strategies and provide and intentional focus on supporting first year student in their transition to the ASU community. 
Skills/Experience Required:
-Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Be able to demonstrate academic and college success strategies
-Have a minimum of 25 credit hours and be in the third semester at university or further by the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester
-Be enrolled as a full-time degree seeking student (undergraduate 12 credit hours a semester, graduate 6 credit hours a semester)
-Have a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.75 at time of application and maintain the GPA requirements throughout their position appointment
-Have lived on campus as least 1 semester
-Be in good behavioral standing with Residential Life and Student Life policies
-Work no more than 10 hours at another job outside of Residential Life -Accept employment for two consecutive semesters (Fall 2008-Spring 2009)

Rez Devil Fall 2010

Job Description:

Rez Devilz are student leaders seeking an advanced leadership experience. Devilz will gain and utilize skills in areas of staff supervision, trainer opportunities and course facilitation to achieve a competitive edge for the next step in their career development. Rez Devilz along with guidance of a supervisor, will follow one of three tracks during their 2 semester appointment.

Student Desk Manager Track:


Student Desk Managers will gain and employ skills in staff supervision, apply effective scheduling techniques ,and develop and demonstrate communication skills through tours and tabling events.

  • Manage Front Desk Assistants at HAV II, PVW and MU Learning Resource Centers’s
  • Hire, Train and Evaluate DA’s.
  • Develop and maintain DA schedule
  • Serve as point of contact for scheduling conflicts and other issues when site supervisor is not present.
  • Enforce policies and procedure of Learning Support Services and ASU
  • Schedule LSS representation at requested Events
  • Schedule  ResidentHall Tours
  • Update Blackboard with information as needed
  • Complete 8 hours of desk duty each week
  • Schedule and lead bi-weekly Desk Assistant meeting
Student Adjunct Instructors Track:


Student Adjunct Instructors will learn how to facilitate and manage a classroom. SAI’s will develop and assess course curriculum as well as advise students on course projects.

  • Participate in “Boot Camp”: Instructor Pedagogy Training
  • Work with professional staff member to assist with classroom facilitation and deliver course curriculum
  • Grade course assignments
  • Develop and monitor online discussion topics
  • Supervise Spring Projects of students enrolled in Residential Paraprofessional Internship (TEL) courses
  • Complete 4 hours of desk duty each week
Student Mentors and Trainers Track:

Student Mentors will develop and implement training programs for campus student leaders. SM’s will collaborate and partner with campus resources and serve as mentors to student leaders at ASU.

  • Obtain Safe Zone Trainer certification
  • Facilitate Safe Zone trainings for student organizations and University Housing
  • Train Peer Mentors for the Obama Scholarship Program
  • Mentor the Peer Mentors for the Obama Scholarship Program
  • Develop and Maintain a relationship with TRIO program including mentoring students involved in TRIO
    • Assist with program planning
    • Direct students toward services provided by other departments on campus such as Success Coaching; Success Workshops; Career Advising; Tutoring; etc.
  • Develop and Maintain a partnership with Multicultural Student Services as well as mentor student leaders from MSS organizations
    • Assist with program development and planning
    • Direct students toward services provided by other departments on campus such as Success Coaching; Success Workshops; Career Advising; Tutoring; etc.
    • Assist student organizations to build partnerships and collaborations with other ASU departments and organizations
  • Complete 4 hours of desk duty each week
Additional Responsibilities of all Rez Devilz:
  • Represent University Housing by providing residential hall tours to perspective students and their parents
  • Assist with Welcome Week Activities
  • Represent Learning Support Services at University Information Fairs
  • Facilitate LSS presentations to student organizations, classes and other members of the student population

Skills/Experience Required:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Software Specialist

Job Description:
Software specialists assist students with software problems, provide individual tutoring and assist Software Training Specialists with workshops. Other duties may be assigned.
Skills/Experience Required:
Must have excellent communication skills and be able to help students use My ASU, find their AFS space, and personalize their e-mail accounts. Opportunities for advancement will be given to students with advanced knowledge in at least three of the following areas: any program in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher), use of the Internet for research, Photoshop, or Dreamweaver. Preference given to undergraduate applicants.

Coach-FYRE Fellow Poly Campus

Job Description:

Coach – FYRE Fellows work 20 hours a week in one of the Polytechnic Campus housing facilities between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. Fridays; and 5:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. Sundays.  Schedules must be finalized by the end of the first week of the semester.  Services begin the second week of the semester.  Coach – FYRE Fellows receive a single room in University Housing on the Polytechnic campus and a student-staff meal plan. Coach – FYRE Fellows must attend all trainings, a monthly coaching meeting, and meetings with their supervisor.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Enrolled at Arizona State University during term of employment
  • Have earned 24 or more credit hours (Sophomore status and higher)
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills

Coach-FYRE Fellow West Campus

Job Description:
Coaching:
  • Offer 8-10 hours of coaching per week, daytime or evening, depending upon the coach’s availability and student demand
  • Serve as the point person for fellow ASU students to aid in their connection to campus resources; academic, special interest, or related to heath and wellness, etc.
  • Aid students in achieving their academic goals and assist in time management, as well as study skills, health and wellness, balancing social life and school, career and major exploration, finances, test-taking, etc.
  • Attend trainings and Success Coach meetings (Two per month: 1-Tempe, 1-West)
  • Coordinate and participate in  2-4 hours of intentional coaching promotions and outreach to residential students on a weekly basis; including tabling events, flyer distribution, and electronic marketing
FYRE Success Workshops:
  • Attend all trainings for workshop delivery (may require travel to Tempe)
  • Provide success workshops throughout the year, on a monthly basis
  • Coordinate and provide a monthly social/academic program (can be in collaboration with a CA or Peer Mentor)
  • Create and manage an academic success resource library in the hall with books and handouts
  • Attend hall staff meetings as well as FYRE meetings (occasional travel to the Tempe Campus may be required)
  • Coordinate and participate in 2-4 hours of intentional workshop/program promotions and outreach to residential students on a weekly basis; including tabling events, flyer distribution, and electronic marketing
Other responsibilities:
  • Provide residential hall tours to prospective students
  • 2-4 hours of study group initialization and organization
  • 2-4 hours of administrative work; including flyer creation, responding to emails, organizing student files, and other duties as assigned
  • Assist with ASU Orientation sessions as needed
  • Assist with recruitment and selection of student leaders during spring student leader hiring season

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Enrolled at Arizona State University during term of employment
